Launch of Max Planck Lawcast

We are pleased to announce the launch of our new podcast, the ‘Max Planck Lawcast’. The name was chosen after an overwhelming response to a call for suggestions via social media, signalling a high level of anticipation and interest.

Hosted by Dr Christopher Murphy, the Max Planck Lawcast primarily features discussions with our researchers on topical issues connected with their research.

The first episode was published on 4 July 2023 and features Cristina Valega Chipoco, Doctoral Researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Crime, Security and Law  . It explores the evolving legal discussions surrounding the element of non-consent in rape offences, focusing on the debate between the ‘no means no’ and ‘yes means yes’ models.

The second episode was published the next day and features Valentin Pinel le Dret, Research Associate at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law , on the concept of unjust enrichment and the law of obligations. The discussion focuses particularly on the historical dimension of the subject at hand from the perspective of the legal systems of France and England. Hereafter, we expect episodes to be published on a fortnightly basis.

The Max Planck Lawcast distinguishes itself in being the first ‘podcast’ to be featured as a research paper series (RPS) in the Social Science Research Network (SSRN), promising a significant boost in exposure.  As an RPS, each episode will be accompanied by a short paper summarizing the main discussion points together with an indicative bibliography. Importantly, each episode will carry a unique Digital Object Identifier (DOI) number, ensuring their permanence and citation capability as a scholarly resource.

This collaboration with SSRN bridges the gap between the audio format and conventional research papers. Should the future of academic publishing increasingly integrate such media with traditional scholarly publication, Max Planck Law hopes to stand ready, ahead of the curve.

Visit the Max Planck Lawcast page on this website. Also, never miss an episode by subscribing to it either at SSRN or whichever podcasting platform you use, for example, Apple or Spotify.
