All researchers, in particular new PhD students, are cordially invited to join us at the second Approaches to Legal Research event at Harnack-Haus in Berlin, 27–28 May 2025. Approaches to Legal Research aims to provide you with an awareness of a range of basic methods and perspectives that you may find useful in your current work and/or in your future academic research.
You will have the opportunity to engage with topics including comparative methods, the uses of legal history, anthropological and sociological approaches, economic analysis of law, empirical legal research, and critical perspectives. Presenters include Dr Alexandra Mercescu (West University of Timisoara | Co-author of Rethinking Comparative Law), Dr Christian Boulanger (MPI-Frankfurt), Dr Simon Gansinger (MPI-Freiburg), Dr Farrah Raza (MPI-Halle), Dr Julie Rocheton (MPI-Frankfurt), and Dr Hannes Rusch (MPI-Freiburg).
The teaching sessions will be pitched at a level appropriate to new researchers. They will aim to strike a balance between instructional presentations and discussions, informed by the research experience of both presenters and participants. Alongside broadening your horizons as a researcher, you will be able to connect with peers from other Institutes in the Max Planck Law network and learn about their work.
Participants’ travel and accommodation will be reimbursed from the Max Planck Law budget.
